Blue lobsters do indeed exist and are extremely rare. Their unusual color seems to be due to a genetic mutation in the proteins that bind to the pigments in their shells.

The New England Aquarium in Boston, which has housed one since 2020, has estimated that they occur in a ratio of one in 2 million. Over the years, the Aquarium has received several rare-colored lobsters, including a yellow lobster and a calico lobster—which occur in nature at a ratio of 1 in 30 million—and an orange lobster, which appears every 20 million lobsters.

There is also the exceptional "Halloween" lobster, half black and half orange, which occurs at a rate of 1 in 50 million.
The rarest of all, however, is the albino lobster: only one in every 100 million!
