Sherry & Fred
Sherry & Fred
This marvelous work, painted in 1906 by John William Godward, is undoubtedly one of the sweetest representations of tranquility. A pleasant summer afternoon, comfortably lounging on a terrace by the sea in the company of a little friend, as gentle as he is fond of cherries.
The painting is housed in the Fred & Sherry Ross Collection in New York. The Ross couple's collection is one of the most extraordinary and valuable assemblages of artworks, with a particular preference for masterpieces of 19th-century painting.
Thanks to the dedication of Fred and Sherry, the Art Renewal Center (ARC) was established in 1998. This foundation promotes the activity and artistic education of students and teachers with the aim of reviving the appreciation of realism in the visual arts.
