This marvelous work, painted in 1906 by John William Godward, is undoubtedly one of the sweetest representations of tranquility. A pleasant summer afternoon comfortably reclining on a seaside terrace in the company of a small friend, as gentle as he is fond of cherries.
The painting is housed in the Fred & Sherry Ross Collection in New York. The Ross couple's collection is one of the most extraordinary and valuable assemblies of art, with a particular preference for masterpieces of 19th-century painting.
Thanks to the efforts of Fred and Sherry, the Art Renewal Center (ARC) was founded in 1998. This foundation promotes artistic activity and education for students and teachers, with the aim of reviving the appreciation of realism in the visual arts.
