Anemones
Anemones
These delicate spring flowers evoke in their name, of ancient Greek origin, the lightness of the wind: ἀνεμώνη indeed means "daughter of the wind."
One of the most evocative myths associated with the anemone is passed down to us by Ovid in the Metamorphoses (X, 734-739) and tells the story of an impossible love, that between the goddess Venus and the beautiful Adonis.
From the blood of the young man, who died in a hunting accident, the goddess wanted to create a very special flower, beautiful like a rose but without fragrance and so fragile that it breaks at the mere touch of the wind, a formidable symbolic parallel to the brevity of human life.
