The Monks' Lake is one of the smallest and most charming coastal lakes in Italy, located within the splendid nature reserve of the Circeo Park in the province of Latina. It is named so because it once belonged to the territory of the Basilian Fathers of the Grottaferrata Abbey. This ancient Catholic monastery of the Byzantine-Greek rite was founded in 1004 by the will of St. Nilus of Rossano at a time when Rome and Constantinople were still in ecclesiastical communion.
The Monks' Lake is an oasis of untouched beauty, rich in biodiversity and home to protected species, which we recommend including among the destinations for your next holidays.
