This vintage design is inspired by the charm of ancient nautical charts, magnificent representations of the known world through the historic exploits of brave crews, ready to face the dangers of the sea in the discovery of the most remote places on Earth.

These charts were often accompanied by fantastic creatures and sea monsters approaching or threatening unwary vessels. It is possible that these were mostly colossal squids, pinnipeds like seals or sea lions, sharks, whales, or giant oarfish.

Marking them on the charts was crucial as it served to warn sailors of impending dangers in little-known waters. In 2013, the British Library published a very interesting study on the subject: "Sea Monsters on Medieval and Renaissance Maps" by American historian and cartographer Chet Van Duzer.

The book shows us how often there are elements of reality behind the most fanciful myths and legends, which are no less important for understanding their specific historical and cultural context.
