The Path of Light is a pilgrimage route following the ancient paths that led from Aquileia in Friuli to Rome, passing through Assisi and the Via Amerina in its final stretch. The Amerina is an ancient Roman road dating back to the 3rd century BC that traversed the Faliscan territory, connecting Veii to Ameria, the present-day city of Amelia from which it takes its name.

The main towns along the route are Nepi, Falerii, Fescennium (Corchiano), Gallese, Vasanello, and Orte. From the second half of the 6th century AD and throughout the Lombard period, the Via Amerina became part of the important Byzantine Corridor, the only remaining passable route between the two main centers of power in the now fragmented Western Roman Empire: Rome and Ravenna.
