The enchanting painting "When the Heart is Young" by the English painter John William Godward was created in 1902 and today belongs to a private collection.
It is remarkable to think that this masterpiece lived in total obscurity along with the rest of Godward's works and those of all the representatives of 19th-century Academicism, cruelly supplanted by the more modern avant-garde movements.
In 1922, Godward himself, at the height of his depression, committed suicide, leaving a note full of bitterness: "The world is not big enough for me and Picasso."
