Laundry Time

Every object, even the most common and seemingly modest, has its own secret life and many stories to tell. The case of simple clothespins is no exception, quite the opposite. One could write novels about the many adventures our clothespins experience every day in our homes, their "tight" relationship with our laundry — a relationship often destined to last for decades — and their friendship with photos, notes, and the edges of packages, holding them together against all odds.

Clothespins are champions of harmony and brotherhood between objects of different kinds that can only stay together thanks to their unifying embrace. If you happen to find one on the street, accidentally escaped from some clothesline, don't let it remain abandoned and risk being destroyed. Adopt it and add it to your collection; it will thank you and bring you good luck.

To pay homage to these small and wonderful objects, the Triennale di Milano dedicated a brilliant exhibition to them in 2017. Curated by Giulio Iacchetti, the event showcased no less than 150 specimens, from the first wooden models invented by David M. Smith in 1853 to the most modern design creations in steel and synthetic materials.
