The island of Montecristo, made famous by Dumas's renowned novel "The Count of Monte Cristo," is a splendid integral nature reserve where reality and legend merge, creating a unique and timeless atmosphere.
For many years, the island hosted a congregation of hermits who founded a monastery, the remains of which can still be admired today, allowing one to savor its spiritual aura.
In addition to the monastery ruins, the only building present is the 'Villa Reale,' built by the English lord George Watson Taylor who purchased the island in 1852. Montecristo also hosts flora and fauna of exceptional importance, strictly protected thanks to controlled tourist access.
