Perlage is the characteristic effervescence of sparkling wines, and in this magnificent composition of fruit, where grapes of different varieties predominate, we can appreciate its lively sparkle in an elegant conical flute.
The author is Severin Roesen, a painter of Prussian origins who moved to America in 1848 to escape the turbulent climate of the European revolutions. There, he built his career, becoming one of the most esteemed and prolific still life painters of the era.
The painting, once part of a collection in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, was sold by Shannon's Fine Art Auctioneers in 2019 for $60,000.00 and is now in a private collection.
